Citizens Energy, a major gas and utility company, created an assistance program in 1979 that will provide free and/or discounted heating fuel and oil to residents of 17 cold weather states. The company works closely with CITGO energy, thousands of heating oil and fuel dealers, and numerous local fuel aid agencies in order to provide residents of these states either free or discounted delivery of home heating oil. The program is called the Oil Heat Program. It historically has provided delivery of 100 gallons of home heating oil to those who need it most and are struggling with paying high heating and utility bills.
