Utility Bill Assistance

Dominion North Carolina Power EnergyShare utility assistance

Dominion North Carolina Power customers that are in a crisis can apply for assistance from the donation program known as EnergyShare. The company, and its local partners, collect contributions from the community and then disburse the funds to the most vulnerable. There may be heating bill assistance for the sick, unemployed, and elderly.

This is a utility assistance program of last resort. This means that the applicant needs to be out of all other options available to them. So if they are struggling, they need to have applied to the state of North Carolina LIHEAP program first. Or they also needed to reach out to social services in an effort to get help. The bottom line is that EnergyShare is limited in scope and funding, mostly due to the fact that donations are used to fund it.

Dominion Power operates in many states. They are one of the leading energy providers in the Southeast and Mid Central part of the nation. However when someone contributes money to the program, those donations will stay local. So families that live in cities such as Charlotte, NC, if they contribute, the money will stay in that local community.

In addition, the goal is to keep the funds as local as possible. This means that it is very possible for a donation (which will be tax deductible) to literally help a Dominion customer that lives in that same town as the donor. Or it can even assist someone on the same street! This keeps any donations made for the utility bill assistance program truly as a local service.

When applying, community action agencies screen the Dominion North Carolina Power EnergyShare program. They take a close look at each request. They will assess the person's income, ensure they have applied to other resources first, and ensure the emergency they are facing qualifies the applicant. Various steps are taken to prevent abuse as well as fraud in this donation program.

EnergyShare will always give priority to paying utilities during the fall, winter, and spring months. This is when the need for heat is at its greatest. So the agency may offer funds for wood, electricity, oil, gas, and other heating costs. It is diverse as Dominion North Carolina customers use various methods to stay warm.

It is a crisis program. There is generally priority given to the elderly or sick. To a lesser extent, and only if donations allows, will EnergyShare help a low income family in a crisis. So applicants for the service should never rely on receiving assistance. But exceptions can always be made.

The money issued will always go directly to Dominion. EnergyShare will not give cash to the customer. Instead the amount due on their bill will be reduced. This is also another tool used to ensure that the donations are used most effectively. To apply, call 1-866-366-4357.
