Utility Bill Assistance

FPL Care to Share utility bill assistance donation program

Customers of FPL can donate to the Care to Share program. In addition, moderate income families who are faced with a shut off of their service may be able to receive assistance with paying their utility bills. It is very limited in scope and only a small number of applications can be fulfilled by FPL as well as the non-profits that partner on it.

Using contributions from people in the community, agencies across the FPL service territory will offer assistance to customers. There tends to be priority given to families with young children, the elderly in Florida, as well as people with a serious medical condition. Only a small portion of a bill will be paid, but that just may be enough to provide the customer time to get back on track.

Care to Share is funded strictly by donations from the community. There are funds provided by customers of all backgrounds, employees of FPL, as well as matching funds from the company itself. Management and shareholders may also donate to it as well. Not only that, but some businesses in Florida will even hold fund raisers in their local towns and cities to raise money.

Contributions are greatly appreciated. Anything that people give is tax deductible. Donations can be of any dollar amount, whether $1 or $10. The money will be combined with other contributions in order to make a difference in the life of someone that is less fortunate.

The money will usually go to people who can’t get government assistance as they are more moderate income. The focus of Care to Care is not on the very low income and it is not for the chronically needy. So the program is targeted at those with a one time crisis.

Your donation can help a FPL customer keep their lights or air conditioning during the summer. While the funding levels vary widely and are determined by donation levels, people can generally get a few hundred dollars for paying their electric bills.

As noted, the agencies that process applications will usually focus any funds on the elderly and people that are most at risk. So your generous contribution can make a big difference in the life of someone that is less fortunate.

When seeking utility assistance, call a local charity in your town. They run the Care To Share program for FPL. Any aid paid out is a form of crisis relief for the poor, low income, and less fortunate. It can also be paid out in an emergency.
