Utility Bill Assistance

Otter Tail Power Company HeatShare utility bill assistance

Donations are accepted by Otter Tail Power Company HeatShare, and this program is used to help pay utility or heating bills in a crisis. It is an emergency service that was created in an effort to assist vulnerable families that have no other options available to them. Much of the focus of HeatShare is focused on senior citizens, the disabled, ill, and families with children.

The company, partnering with social service agencies, uses contributions from the community. The money comes in small dollar amounts or programs such as Operation Round Up. Every single cent collected is used to assist with utility bills. The funds may be able to help a customer keep their lights on for a few more days or even weeks.

Donations – The good news is that anyone can contribute. The money can come from individuals, companies, or even employees as well. Whether it is $1 or $10, each and every dollar will make a difference towards assisting the less fortunate.

There are different ways to contribute. Customers can make a one time donation or round up their monthly Otter Tail bill to the next dollar amount. They can also stop contributing at any time, and there are no long term commitments or contracts involved.

When contributing, know this. Your hard earn money will not pay some overhead cost to running the program. So it goes to those who need it, and it is strictly focused on paying utility bills. Also, while people should talk to their accountant, their may be a tax benefit to contributing.

Bills paid by Otter Tail Power Company HeatShare – There are different types of expenses. However it is not a long term solution, and what someone really needs to do is conserve their electricity and/or increase their income. Those are the only true, office ways to get any type of assistance. No one should rely on Otter Tail Power Company HeatShare to solve all of their problems.

Applications can be made to the company or a local social service agency. When someone is qualified for assistance, and they can prove it, then funds will be given to them. The money will go directly to the company and no cash will ever be given to the applicant. Or there may be instances in which a credit will be placed on the customer's account in lieu of cash being paid out.

Priority of Otter Tail Power Company HeatShare will always be for those that are truly struggling. The applicant needs to show a past history of being on time with their utility payments, and also meet income guidelines, which tend to be around 150% of poverty levels or lower. Proof of a medical hardship or illness may also be required as well as other supporting documentation.

To either donate to the programs, or to apply for one time cash assistance on your monthly energy bills, call the customer service team at Otter Tail. A staff member will go over all the different options which may be available. They will discuss not only Otter Tail Power Company HeatShare, but also payment plans and the like.
