Utility Bill Assistance

PGE REACH utility bill donation program.

Utility assistance is available from the REACH donation program. The program was created by PGE and its partners in an effort to help individuals that are facing a crisis and that could possibly have their electricity shut off. There are many conditions that need to be met by applicants, and the program is limited as it does depend on contributions from people in the community as well as businesses.

The REACH Program can provide assistance for electric and other bills to income qualified families within the companies service area. The funds are intended to assist families or customers that are faced with a shut off of their account if they do not receive help. But the only reason that REACH is available is because of donations from the community.

Please do donate if you can. The money will stay local and is targeted to people facing a one time crisis, so this is not a long term charity program that customers can turn to year in an year out. For those people that do contribute, they will also more than likely receive a deduction on their income taxes, however talk to your accountant if needed.

The Salvation Army administers it for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and they may also help arrange for contributions and donations from the public too. The organization will review applications, distribute the donated money, and ensure the funds go to only those that are most in need and qualify.

When donating, any amount is accepted, whether $1 or $10. It is even common for a contribution that some makes to go to a home with young children or maybe a senior that is facing a one time crisis. So the contribution will make a difference, and it is targeted at the needy. To learn more on the process, call 1-800-933-9677.

Applications for REACH are available from PG&E and are located across both northern and central California. When seeking help with utilities from it, proof of income as well as the crisis needs to be provided. This is also a one-time program for addressing unexpected emergencies that are not caused by the customer, such as maybe a car expense or health care issue. Some of the typical applicants include the unemployed from an unexpected job loss, elderly, disabled, sick, and working poor.

There can be some additional support for terminally ill, seniors, or the physically challenged as well, and PGE may allow them to apply a little more frequently. However this is also often rare and is not an option in all cases.

Income limits are also in place, and they will be based on certain poverty levels. When applying, those latest terms and conditions will be provided. For more information or to apply, call 800-933-9677. In most cases, the person seeking help will be put in touch with an application site.
