Utility Bill Assistance

City of Ukiah utility bill assistance programs

There are a few energy bill assistance programs that can help City of Ukiah families and utility customers. There are donation services that can be used to pay bills (including C.A.R.E.S.), senior citizen discounts, financial aid for people who need power with their Life Saving Support Equipment, Salvation Army resources, government aid from HEAP and more.

The assistance involves both emergency financial aid for paying energy bills as well as free or low cost energy conservation measures. Each service has its own application process. However, all families or individuals that are seeking help need to live in the City of Ukiah.

Financial assistance for paying utility bills

The main one, which relies on donations from the community, is the C.A.R.E.S. program. This is run in partnership with the city as well as the Salvation Army. Both the city and the charity collect donations and 100% of the funds go to pay electric, light, and other utility bills.

The formal name of CARES is the City Assistance for Relief through Energy Support. There are only small dollar amounts available, and it changes year to year based on donation levels. To learn more, contribute or apply dial (707) 468-9577.

Very low income families (or those living in poverty) can apply to Home Energy Assistance Program – H.E.A.P. This is a federal government low income energy bill assistance program that is offered available in the City of Ukiah California. It is non-emergency as it takes days for applications to get processed. Senior citizens, the disabled, single moms, and very poor get priority. It depends on federal funding. Call (707) 463-0303.

City of Ukiah discount programs and additional services

It is even more critical for senior citizens to keep their power on. Not only that, the cost of utilities can be difficult when living on a limited income. Therefore, there is the City of Ukiah senior citizen discount program. It is for households with someone over the age of 62.

The Senior Citizen Monthly Discount can give up to $40 credit on monthly utility bills to qualified elderly. The exact amount will depend on the applicant’s income. In addition, any savings/credits can also be combined with one of the donation services above, such as City Assistance for Relief through Energy Support. Or of course a senior citizen can also apply for government grants from HEAP.

Senior citizens as well as the disabled in the City of Ukiah California who use Life Support Equipment can get financial help for their utilities too. Once again, this can be combined with donations above, senior discounts, or government grants. The point being customers can apply to one or more City of Ukiah utility bill assistance programs. There is also the Medical Baseline Assistance program. Doctors and/or medical providers need to be involved as well.

There can be other solutions that are explored as well. For information on any utility bill assistance programs that can help City of Ukiah families, or for donating to help the less fortunate, dial (707) 463-6228. Or even learn about CalWorks, payment plans on energy bills, housing resources and other assistance (in addition to utilities).
