Utility Bill Assistance

Dayton Power & Light Gift of Power utility assistance

Duke Energy Heatshare allows businesses, individuals, and the community to donate money to help the less fortunate paying their utility bills. It was established as a resources works off the principal of Neighbor helping Neighbor, meaning that all of the money stays local. All of the contributions (100% of them) are used for paying heating and utility bills of struggling residential customers.

Not only can any person or business in the community donate, but Duke Energy of Ohio also does their part by offering utility bill assistance. They will match donations from the community, they offer struggling individuals a host of other options (in addition to Heatshare) such as payment plans or LIEAP applications, and much more. The bottom lines is that there is a wide ranging approach used in an effort to help a family to keep their electricity on.

Process to contribute or to apply to Duke Energy Heatshare

The program is run from one of two place. First, there are local non-profits, such as the Salvation Army in Ohio, that are involved. They can direct customers on the process to apply to Duke Energy Heatshare. These groups will also screen applicants. They will require proof of income, copies of old utility bills, copies of doctor notices, and proof of hardship.

After all of this has been submitted, and approved, then they will determine how much money is left to distribute. Any funds paid to to help with utility bills will depend on the amount of donations received. It is also a first come-serve program in which energy bill help is given out as applications are received, with priority for seniors and people with a medical illness. Unfortunately there is no way that Ohio Duke Energy Heatshare can meet all of the demand on its own.

Anyone seeking to donate to Duke Energy in Ohio Heatshare can either contact a non-profit, contribute using their monthly bill, or they can call the company. When someone decides to give back, keep in mind a few things. They include the following.
-In general, a donation is tax deductible.
-100% of a donation goes to pay utility bills and not administrative salaries.
-Duke Energy will generally match the contributions up to a certain dollar amount.
-Checks can be made out to Heatshare on a one time basis or monthly contributions can be made.

The customer service team can go over the ways to contribute. In general, the most commonly selected option, is round up the monthly utility bill to the next dollar amount. The difference then goes to provide assistance to the needy. This contribution can be started or stopped at any time.

The service also will strictly adhere to the previously mentioned neighbor-helping-neighbor principle. So contributions to the program will all be kept in the area where the donor lives. The funds may help keep the power on for a family living down the street that is in the hospital, or an elderly person that had their spouse ass away, etc. So all of the utility assistance from Duke Energy Heatshare will make a difference in the community where the funds originate from.
