Utility Bill Assistance

Entergy Power to Care utility assistance in Texas

Vulnerable customers, such as seniors and those with an illness, can receive utility bill assistance from Entergy Power to Care. The donation based program was created years ago in an effort to help families keep their power on. Small dollar amounts may be issued to pay for a portion of a past due energy bill, but resources are limited.

The money for Power to Care comes from various places. Customers donate as do local businesses as well. The company will also offer matching grants from the trustee charity program, which makes any donations that much more impactful. No matter the source of money, the ultimate goal of Entergy Power to Care is to help the most vulnerable in the service territory.

Applications to Power to Care

When seeking assistance for paying an energy bill, proof of need is required. The customer should have copies of all their income, whether from a job, child support, or benefits. Also, if there is a medical condition, then a doctor's note may be required. Other documentation for Entergy Power to Care includes, but is not limited to, proof of residency, copies of unpaid bills, and copies of a lease agreement or mortgage loan.

The assistance is distributed from local agencies in Texas. They work with Entergy on screening clients and ensure the money goes to those that are most deserving. The utility assistance is also intended to help pay a bill that is due to a crisis. So the customer needs proof of paying past expenses on time and what the emergency is.

Also, as noted, Entergy Power to Care is intended to help those that are most at risk if their electricity is shut off. This means that if the household has a medical need for power (such as maybe there are sick) then they will get priority. Or if an older person needs heat/AC to stay warm or safe, then the program may help them too.

Since donations are used, the amount of money paid out is minimal. But it may provide the customer “breathing room” so they can improve their finances. Or maybe they can apply for a long term solution, such as LIHEAP, which can also assist Entergy customers. Call 1-800-368-3749 for details.

To donate to the program

Any dollar amount is appreciated. If someone can contribute 1$ or $100, the money will be put to good use in the community. As noted, Entergy Power to Care is an emergency service for truly vulnerable households. Only a small number of applications are approved.

Donations can be made by rounding up a bill or making a one time contribution. They can also be started or stopped at any time. For more details, dial 1-800-368-3749 for information.
