Allegheny Power both partners with local non-profits, such as the Salvation Army, to offer assistance as well as they administer their own programs for customers who need help. Learn about some of the options below, as well as who to call for help.

Bill Extender Plan is a service that is offered directly by Allegheny Power. If you are a customer who receives either federal government pension benefits or Social Security, their Bill Extender Plan will in effect have your bill due at the same time you receive your income. So if you get paid on the 15th of the month, your bill will be sent to you around that time. It improves your personal cash flow and the timing on whey you pay your utility bills.

Private companies, non-profits, and charities work with Allegheny to offer the Community Energy Fund (CEF). This is a service that provides financial assistance and cash grants to qualifying individuals and families who need emergency assistance for paying their electric bill. A federal government program known as the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) is another option. It is run by the state, and it can assist low to moderate income customers pay for their fuel and utility bills. Utility Service Protection Plan (USPP) is another federally sponsored utility program that is being administered by the state of Maryland to provide payment assistance to low to moderate income customers, the elderly and others for fuel bills.

Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) is another state funded program that was created to help low-income electric customers pay their monthly utility and gas bills. Financial help may be available whether customers have active electric service, whether their service was previously terminated, owe outstanding bills and are applying for new service. The Maryland Electric Universal Service Program may help eligible electric customers with paying for old bills (known as arrearage retirement), current utility bill assistance or weatherization and energy conserving programs.
