Utility Bill Assistance

Virginia Natural Gas Energy Share utility assistance programs

While there are government energy bill assistance programs available for Energy Share customers, those are often difficult to get. The Energy Share service was created to fill a need in the community by using donations from the region to help pay utility bills. The funds tend to be a little more available and can often be disbursed in less time.

The donation service involves a number of different companies, individuals, and social service agencies in the region. Some help collect donations (including churches) and others assist with the application process for Virginia Natural Gas Energy Share as well as disbursement of funds for paying utility bills. One of those is the Salvation Army.

When all else fails though, the customer service team at Virginia Natural is valuable resource. They can direct customers (no matter their income) to Virginia Natural Energy Share donation sites. Or they can also offer referrals to other forms of assistance, ranging from free energy conservation (weatherization) to government grants (from LIHEAP). The customer service team can also further expand on the process to donating money to the service.

Both one time and round up donations are accepted as part of the program. These provides more options to people who contribute. Not only that, but of course there are other benefits. They include tax deductions; all donations are voluntary; and they can be stopped or restarted at any time (Round Up).

In addition, for people or companies contributing on a one time basis, any dollar amount is accepted. There are no minimal amounts. Whether it is $1, $20, or $100, one hundred percent of that money goes to pay utility bills of less fortunate households. It often flows to senior citizens, single parent homes, and others who are at risk without power in their home.

Virginia Natural Energy Share application process – As noted, call a local social service agency. The Salvation Army is one. Or a customer can contact the company itself using the phone number below. When there are funds issued by the company as part of this, it will only be small dollar amounts.

The assistance program also requires the following. Proof of residency in the service area; proof of hardship; copies of income and assets from the applicant (bank statements); copies of past due utility bills; and a history of paying energy costs on time in the past.

This is a crisis program only. If the Virginia Natural customer needs long term financial help, they should not apply to this is donations are limited. Instead they should seek assistance from LIHEAP, which is more of a year to year, longer term benefit. Or they can inquire into payment plans, balanced billing, or other tactics.
For more information on donating or getting assistance from Virginia Natural Energy Share, call the company to reach customer service or try the Salvation Army.
